
He immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 1980 at the age of 7. He grew up and had his entire education in Southern California. He attended the University of California, Riverside where he received his Biomedical Sciences degree in 1995. Dr. Phu then received his Medical Degree from UCLA Medical School in 1999 and completed his Internal Medicine residency at St. Mary Medical Center in 2002. After completion of residency, Dr. Phu joined the teaching faculty as an academic staff physician, participating in clinical teaching and training of medical students and residents.
